Disadvantages of growing up in the digital era.
This type of model often can produce many disadvantages for children, leading to serious issues. These sorts of issues seem to arise from non-interactive media. Non-interactive media is defined as certain television programs, DVD's, and streaming media that do not promote active engagement and interactions. These specific types of media many times lead to over-viewing and passive watching (NAEYC, 2). Limitations on the use of technology and media is essential. Far too often children are over-exposed, and one of the main issues that has been known to arise from this fact is childhood obesity. Technology and media can lead to childhood obesity first, because of the type of media and advertisements that these children are watching, for example the incalculable amount of commercials that food and beverage industry owns. We live in the age of fast food, and this is what young children are being exposed too, and is very detrimental to a child's health. The other factor that can lead to this growing epidemic is merely the fact that the time spent in front of these technological devices, drastically decreases the amount of physical activity these children are receiving. It is all about the limitation, and uses of these devices.
